So in the area where Matsuyama is now, there has been quite a lot of excavation done to find artifacts from ancient peoples. Ehime University turns out to be the site of some ancient tribe. There used to be two large rivers on both sides of the land, so the site of the university was actually like a long island. Thus, very good for resources. Every time a building is removed, archaeologists search for any artifacts before they can begin. Many of these are placed in the university museum, however there is also a dedicated museum on another mountain on the other side of town. One of our professors decided to take us there.
A lot of these artifacts appear to be earthenware "models" of something as there appears to be faces on them. I can't quite remember but they are called "scales" like a weighing object, and if I do remember correctly, they were something people carried with them for protection or they may have worked like a voodoo doll to curse other people.
I couldn't read anything else in the museum, and we weren't there very long, so please enjoy the pictures.
These are the earthenware "scales" (分銅).
